Audi's New Mind Blowing Record At The Nürburgring

The new Audi RS3 as of this week is faster around the Nürburgring Nordschleife than the Lamborghini Murciélago SuperVeloce LP670-4, the 2002 Pagani Zonda 7.3 and the Mercedes SLS AMG, among others heavy hitting supercars.

Audi took their new 2022 RS3 to the Nürburgring to set the fastest time for a hot hatch/compact car and they smashed the existing record. Thanks to the all new RS Torque Splitter combined with the 401hp 2.5L I5 that powers the new RS model and the driving skills of Audi’s test driver Frank Stippler, the RS3 was able to complete a full lap of the Nordschleife, also known as the Green Hell in just 7:40.748.

Nürburgring track day drivers are happy if they lap the notorious circuit in under 9 or 10 minutes (depending on the car) with most modern and hardcore sports/super cars from this century managing to do it in under 8 minutes. Honda’s latest generation Civic Type R is Audi’s nearest rival, but 2 seconds slower. Even after Honda removed a bunch of components including the infotainment system and the rear seats to achieve that time, the RS3 was in its factory condition apart from the one-off livery and the semi-slick Pirelli tyres.

With a new record set at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, challengers such as Hyundai with their I30N, Mercedes with their A63 AMG and the new contender Toyota with their fan favourite GR Yaris Homologation Special, are all chasing Audi’s 7:40.748.
